Group HSE Manager (Belux, France, Italy, Spain; 50 % travel)

Implement company HSE strategy in multiple factories through pragmatic approach and strong local follow-up. Expertise, Enthusiasm and practical mindset required to obtain best results.

Function

This senior role reports directly to the Group QHSE Director, supporting him closely and deputising in his absence. Providing strategic management and technical HSE oversight for McBride’s locations in Western Europe (excluding the UK), you will be responsible for eight industrial sites/offices in Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Italy and Spain, comprising liquid mixing, filling, blow moulding and powder manufacturing plants.

Requiring a practical (non-theoretical) approach, you will work closely with site leaders, site HSE Managers (as your indirect reports) and local HSE teams, developing a transparent HSE culture with effective two-way communication with all parties involved.

Having a solid technical HSE expertise, a thorough business understanding and a pragmatic, realistic approach you will gain respect and influence change.

Being based in Belgium, this role will require you to travel quite a lot (minimum of 50%, mostly short trips), as being present at the factories is essential for the successful long-term implementation of different HSE initiatives. You will support the local teams in achieving operational excellence through improving (Q)HSE standards and by driving performance between sites to achieve group targets.

At the moment there is a company-wide focus on projects concerning safety (culture) improvement. Attention will shift to environmental matters in the nearby future.

Skills and Qualifications

  • You possess a Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety: “Preventieadviseur niveau 1”, “Conseiller en Prévention niveau 1”;
  • An Environmental Management Qualification (Milieucoördinator / Coordinateur Environnemental) will be an obvious asset;
  • Experience with ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001;
  • Language skills: English is mandatory; a sound knowledge of Dutch and/or French is highly recommended;
  • Substantial, practical HSE experience gained in a progressive, cross-cultural FMCG environment or equivalent fast paced manufacturing sector. Suitable career routes would be Quality, HSE or Engineering;
  • You are experienced in developing, directing and motivating a team of HSE Professionals, preferably in a remote matrix network;
  • Experience of using tools such as Lean Six Sigma and Risk Assessment will be beneficial.
  • Willing to RELOCATE to Belgium.
