International Product Engineer Nafion (up to 50% travel / focus on chemical industry + fuel cell manufacturers)

You report to the Technology Manager headquartered in Mechelen (BE) and you preferably live within reach of the Mechelen or Dordrecht (NL) Site. Master degree in engineering is required (chemistry or mechanical).

Function

To support the Chemours Nafion™ business, we are looking for a Technical Product Engineer. This position can be based in Mechelen, Belgium or in Dordrecht, The Netherlands.

For the past 40 years, Nafion™ membranes and dispersions have been the product of choice for the fuel cell industry, providing unparalleled power output and durability. Today, Nafion™ polymer has evolved into a leading-edge fuel cell material for a wide variety of applications.

Production and process improvements ensure superior performance standards and allow fuel cell manufacturers to pursue new markets. Chemours scientists continue to build on this trend of innovation, looking for next-generation membranes and other new developments to push fuel cell technology even further.

This is a highly visible, key role within the Company and the Nafion™ Ion Exchange Materials business.

Next to the fuel cell manufacturers, you also deliver services to / work closely with various chemical manufacturers who use the Nafion™ products in their own production process (Chloralkali industry).

Responsibilities International Product Engineer :

  • Providing technical guidance & training to customers, as well as writing technical summaries;
  • Trouble-shooting customers problems at their site: i.e. quality issues, process engineering etc.;
  • Assisting sales in explaining the products and their benefits to customers & work with the sales team to share the value of their offering in the application and to enhance their offering positioning at customers;
  • Working with Global R&D team to optimize and develop next generation products in both chloro-alkali and future developments in energy applications;
  • Business development downstream – ability to connect with end-users and equipment specifiers in the industry;
  • Deliver value assessment of their product offering by application; application assessment done inside or outsourced;
  • Participate in technical conferences and seminars, trade shows/conferences, presenting papers, participating in panels etc. to gather application trends and find identify new applications.
Skills and Qualifications

  • Master Degree in Engineering (mechanical or chemistry);
  • 3-5 years industrial experience, working in the Chloro-alkali industry is a plus;
  • 1-2 years in customer facing roles is a plus;
  • Experience working with ion exchange materials is a plus;
  • Experience writing technical documents;
  • Fluent in English, knowledge of another language is a plus, particularly German;
  • Customer-oriented and communicative;
  • Innovative, improvement- and result-oriented;
  • Analytical, flexible, autonomous and dynamic team player;
  • Willingness to travel (50%). Europe (85 %), Middle East (10%), USA (5%). Mostly short trips between mondays and fridays. You can define the travelling schedule yourself.
