Function

In this unique position your ability to be critical about existing practices, to think outside-the-box and your aptitude for process and project engineering will all be put to very good use. The success of your initiatives is of course also dependent on the buy-in of other key people/stakeholders within the organization (PD&I, Production, Logistics, Finance, Quality…).

As a Lead Engineer you are responsible for developing, recommending and implementing cost-effective food manufacturing process improvements within the product requirements, quality and safety standards and sustainability platform specified by Griffith’s customers. You are also responsible for project management of capital projects, engineering design, development of specifications, scope of work definition, project planning and execution, as well as organizing and coordinating resource schedules and budgets. These CAPEX projects may involve any plant technical issue including, but not limited to: dust control, material handling, automation controls (related to Industry 4.0), packaging equipment & systems, blending equipment & systems (dry and/or liquids), food manufacturing processes, sanitary design etc

This position reports directly to the Global Head of Engineering.

  • You perform analysis and make recommendations in the manufacturing processes for improvements in efficiency, quality and cost-reduction;
  • You perform design and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods and production equipment, promoting sustainability and maximizing safety and wellbeing of employees;
  • Launch coordination of new/revised manufacturing upgrades including establishing goals, training team members and evaluating results;
  • Preparation and maintaining of detailed layouts of buildings and equipment;
  • Design, development, sourcing and testing of machinery and equipment for manufacturing improvements;
  • Planning and implementation of assigned engineering projects including defining of scope, project activities, equipment specification, contractor requirements as well as plant and customer requirements;
  • You develop and maintain schedule and budget for the projects;
  • Project status reporting and interfacing with internal client to provide project updates and to ensure customer needs are met;
  • Expenditure control; responsible for project forecasting and spending;
  • You identify project staffing requirements and you coordinate staffing with supporting managers;
  • Documenting of all aspects of projects such as directing outside contractors, project integration into the plant operation, technical information and training;
  • Coordination, preparation and delivery of project deliverables, design documents, and bid packages;
  • Product design review for compliance with engineering principles, sustainability, ergonomics, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications;
  • Assignment and supervision of project personnel to specific phases or aspects of project such as technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications and technical plans or product testing;
  • You evaluate and approve design changes, specifications and drawing releases.
Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Automation or related Engineering discipline;
  • Several years of relevant engineering experience in a manufacturing, production or process industry. Experience with packaging, food processing, mixing, batching or control processing is an asset;
  • Hands-on mindset with floor experience; flexibility to work in small team environments, wearing multiple heats; solutions oriented, with preference for the practical side of business;
  • Cooperation oriented; you make sure your process and project initiatives are supported by the Herentals organization;
  • 10 % travel to other Griffith sites and vendor locations;
  • Excellent knowledge of English and Dutch.
