R&D Engineer / Product Development Engineer

As R&D Engineer at Bexco you Initiate, plan and control R&D projects in synthetic rope applications related to the permanent mooring of very large floating structures including floating wind turbines and to maritime mooring ropes, heavy lifting ropes and oil & gas structures. You collaborate closely with Sales, Quality and Production departments as well as with the end client. You report to the R&D Manager.

A short overview of your activities and responsibilities:

• Communication with internal (sales) and external clients, online and in person, for technical support and translating client demands to the organization.
• Building product expertise by testing on various high sensitivity test machines for synthetic yarns and ropes.  Analysis of test data according to international standards.
• Planning and programming of the state-of-the-art 500T tensile test machine.
• Supporting 2 lab technicians.
• Implementation and evaluation of new products in the field, on board of vessels, with an average of 2 weeks per year.
• Staying up-to-date with the state-of-the-art in synthetic rope technology and production technology globally, via conferences and seminars.

• Master’s degree in engineering and good knowledge of polymer-composites / chemistry.
• Relevant R&D experience (not necessarily in synthetic fibers) is considered a big plus.
• Strong analytical skills and profound understanding of physics /“mechanics”.
• Creative but also pragmatic mindset, oriented towards market launch of New Products.
• Motivated to realize innovation and strong drive to deliver top quality products.
• Ability to translate complex technical content to a non-technical audience.
• Knowledge of synthetic fibers, modelling software (e.g. Abaqus) or Bexco’s target market(s) are all a plus.
• Very good knowledge of the English language. Knowledge of Dutch is very handy.
